Water water everywhere and ...............

Updated: Oct 7

Wow! what an awesome hot summer we had! it was fabulocious! During those hot months I tried to prioritise my hydration and here’s why………..

Water is essential for the proper functionality of the body cells, organs and tissues. It helps regulate internal and external body temperature, maintain general body function and ensure a sustained breathing process, sweating, and digestion. It is therefore essential to rehydrate by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain enough water. I will take you through the top ten health benefits of drinking enough water.

1. Water helps the brain function and treats headache

Your hydration status greatly influences the functionality of your brain. Water makes up about 75%of the brain. It helps transport oxygen and nutrients essential for the brain's proper functioning. It provides lubrication and cushioning to the brain tissue. A recent study revealed that mild dehydration, such as 1.4% fluid loss, can impair brain function, including migraines and headaches. The study further disclosed that fluid loss of 1.6% can be detrimental to working memory and cause increased feelings of anxiety and fatigue. Drinking enough water improves brain health.

2. Water helps to maximize physical performance

This is very important during an intense workout or high-heat occasions. When you engage in extreme physical activities, there are possibilities of dehydration, reduced motivation, alteration in temperature control, and increased fatigue which can eventually lead to a reduction in physical performance. Boost physical performance with proper hydration

3. It relieves constipation

Low water consumption seems to be one of the risk factors for constipation. Constipation is infrequent bowel movements and difficulty in stooling. When this happens, increasing hydration may bring relief

4. It helps treat kidney stones

Urinary stones (also known as kidney stones) are painful clumps of mineral crystals that form in the urinary system. Few studies have shown that proper hydration can help prevent and treat the recurrence of this abnormality in people who have previously had kidney stones.

5. It aids in weight loss

Drinking plenty of water can help you lose weight. There has been lots of verified research on this. Water can help boost metabolic rate and increase satiety. It also helps to increase the number of calories you burn daily.

6. It promotes healthy joints

Water is one of the best lubricants for your joints. It makes up a considerable part of your joint cartilage, which helps with shock absorption and smoother joint movements.

7. It aids respiration

Respiration is easier easy when your body is adequately hydrated. Passing urine, stooling, and sweating are ways to release toxic substances out of the body. One of the best ways to make respiration easier is through hydration.

8. It improves heart health

Dehydration affects your blood vessels, giving your heart much harder work to do to ensure blood circulation through the body. Overworking your heart can be detrimental. Improve your heart health by drinking enough water.

9. Build stronger muscles

Drinking water can help your muscles grow stronger. Water is responsible for transporting oxygen to your body's cells, including those of your muscles. Proper hydration enables your muscles to work longer and harder before they feel tired. The resultant effect of this is improved muscle mass.

10. It gives you a better skin texture

Proper hydration rids the skin of toxins and reduces wrinkles on the skin. Drinking enough water gives your skin a more radiant glow.

How much water is said to be enough?

The recommendation is to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily, which is about 237 mL daily. Although there is not much science behind this specific rule, a lot of evidence has shown that staying hydrated is healthy.

Peace & love
